The Government in several counties in Southern France has enhanced enforcement of regulations related to the prevention of forest fires. There is a legal requirement for each house owner to clear brushwood and undergrowth and prune trees within 50 meters around any house built close to a forested area. I was surprised when I realized that this regulation makes no mention of climate change and the related growing risk of forest or vegetation fire. Some of the owners find it hard to consent to invest time and money into such works. It seems to me that the absence of explanation about the purpose of this regulation is a contributing factor to this lack of consent.
